Rosebery Estates, Dalmeny, South Queensferry, Edinburgh
Unlike most castles, Barnbougle has always been peaceful, welcoming and profoundly uplifting.- Lady Jane Kaplan
Barnbougle Castle is one of Scotland’s hidden treasures, commanding spectacular views over the Firth of Forth. The waterfront Castle is surrounded by the secluded, wooded parklands of Dalmeny Estate.
The Castle was the bolthole of 19th century Prime Minister Archibald Primose, the 5th Earl of Rosebery. Closed for 90 years after the Earl’s death, this 13th century Castle had always been a private residence until the Spring of 2019. It is now open as an exclusive-hire heritage venue.
Barnbougle is only minutes from Dalmeny House, the majestic family home of the 7th Earl of Rosebery. It is very well located as a venue, secluded, yet close to Edinburgh and easily accessed.
Special, versatile event spaces
Barnbougle offers the most memorable of event spaces - the very best that Scotland has to offer.
Its rooms are versatile and inspiring, ranging from the stately and magnificent to the intimate and secluded. The glorious sixty foot long Banqueting Hall has a Minstrel’s Gallery and breathtaking views. The grand Scottish Library has thousands of books and open access onto the sea-facing terraces and private beaches.
Our exclusive-use Castle caters for up to 140 guests seated or 200 standing. We can cater for 450 in marquees in the grounds. This makes the venue versatile - whether for entertaining on a large scale or planning an intimate gathering with family and friends. Bespoke weddings, meetings and corporate events are all welcomed.
